some notes on last sunday

things we liked about sunday

Bob's sermon: message was very relevent and intriguing
music--especially WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU.
communion--the holy meal!

things to be improved:
participation/response/art
don't need hyperactive--making sure more voices involved
the litany of welcome--where is it?
feeling disconected---pews not right for who we are and our size

what are we going to do with pews?????? is there a way to create a more intimate feeling with the pews? what about meeting downstairs? disconnected:

powerpoint: figuring out how to do the bulletin in one page

first off: i found it!

"We are an emerging christian community re-imagining how we follow the path of Jesus in the twenty-first century. Together we seek to be in conversation and action towards building God's dream of Justice, Mercy and Discipleship."

Litany of Welcome

We are people of all ages who enter this space bringing our joys and our concerns.

We come together in hope.

We greet each other warmly with our voices and our smiles.

We come together in peace.

We share our growth and our aspirations.

We come together in wonder.

We share our losses and our disappointments.

We come together in sorrow.

We share our concern and our compassion.

We come together in love.

We sing and pray and listen. We speak and read and dream. We think and ponder and reflect. We cry and laugh and center. We mourn and celebrate and meditate. We strive for justice and for mercy.

We come together in worship

Let us pass God’s peace with our sisters and brothers.

this should be a separate post, but who wants to add to the liturgy about who we are?

finally, here are the notes from monday's meeting:

service includes a communal poem (similar to the atomic service) responding to question: how we felt on 9/11

hilary is reading the peter piece

we wanted to read a portion from mclaren's "everything must change" book - mike, do you have a good excerpt?

ghandi's "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" quote...

let me know if there's anything to add!

i can do the bulletin tomorrow...

I'm still reading "A Generous Orthodoxy" and listening to "A New Kind of Christian." So, no quotes from me from "Everything Must Change." It sounds like a good campaign slogan.

I'm not sure about the question:
"... who wants to add to the liturgy about who we are?" Are you talking about -
"We are an emerging christian community re-imagining how we follow the path of Jesus in the twenty-first century. Together we seek to be in conversation and action towards building God's dream of Justice, Mercy and Discipleship."

Do you want something added to that in the form of a liturgy?
i.e.,
Leader: WE ARE EMERGING.
All: NOT SUBMERGED, NOR HIDDEN.
Leader: WE ARE CHRISTIAN.
All: LOVING AND SERVING GOD FIRST; LOVING AND SERVING OTHERS BECAUSE OF OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD.
Leader: WE ARE COMMUNITY.
All: NOT SEEKING OUR INDIVIDUAL WILL, BUT OUR COLLECTIVE WILL, LED BY GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT.
Leader: WE ARE FOLLOWING THE PATH OF JESUS IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY.
All: LEARNING FROM THE SINNERS AND SAINTS OF THE PREVIOUS TWENTY CENTURIES.
Leader: TOGETHER WE SEEK TO BE IN CONVERSATION;
All: NOT LECTURE OR SILILOGUY (spelling?).
Leader: ENGAGED IN ACTIONS TOWARDS BUILDING GOD'S DREAMS
All: OF JUSTICE, MERCY AND DISCIPLESHIP.
Leader: LET'S CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION.
All: TO THE GLORY OF GOD!

I left out "re-imagining." That's an important one. Someone else can take it.

I'm out of time for now. I won't be back on before the bulletin's done, but I'm willing to do anything you need me to do Sunday. I'll check the blog late Friday night.
