Hey all, Mike here. Sounds like Sunday's service turned out quite nice. Hope Joe is feeling better. We are about to enter the church busy season---school is in session, the summer lull is about to lift, and we are steaming towards Christmas. It is probably a good time to start discussing where we might be going with this experiment. Some brief thoughts:
1. I have enjoyed the worship meetings. It looks like Wednesday is not quite working out as a preferred date. Is there a way we can move worship meeting to monday nights and have Joe join us via some sort of technologically advance way (web/tele-conference)?
2. The blog works best if we keep it lively and active. full of pictures and musings and plans and dreams. so please contribute to it. if you do not yet have a password to contribute then please email me so you can get it.
3. bulletins: do you like the bulletins or can we move more of the text and imagary to powerpoint?
4. Music: jordan and crew has done a great job. should we restructure service so that maybe we do three songs up front, delve into the service, have a mediative song after the sermon and end with some music? or something like that. it might be good to do something like that to get the blood flowing and allow a window for latecomers to get settled in....
5. hospitality: how do we do hospitality better? from greeters to coffee and donuts/muffins to getting people's email, etc.

The blog didn't work well at all last week; but I understand it was an unusual week for Mike and Katy - in a good unusual way.
Now I have a few phone numbers; at least I can call someone if no blog responses.
Arrange the meeting(s) whenever it is best for of the group. I'll try to fit in wherever I can (not a good Sunday record lately for me, 0 for 3 the last 3 weeks).
If we can get to the point where our plans are a few weeks in advance, maybe we can have BRIEF Sunday meetings to make a few "assignments" for the mid-week meeting, and it won't have to be so long. You'll find the meetings will shorten in my absence. I tend to be wordy - just asks Shannon.
Do whatever needs to be done. Once I get my job moved here, it won't matter what night we meet. But, you can't plan your meeting schedule around me. I do feel included, for which I am thankful.
By the way, Mike's 5 suggestions are good.
Powerpoint, I think, makes the service less restrictive, more flowing, if the visual is good and easy to see. The bulletin can have worship elements too. We still need to have "take-out" info for our daily living response to worship and info about upcoming events, "field trips," themes, preachers, etc.
The music we've had is good - more of it is better !!! The "artsy" things are good - but we don't have to feel bound to it every week. When we have a theme for the month, we can have a growing art piece/collage/etc.
Are we meeting tonight (Wed)?
CONGRATS TO MIKE AND KATY!!!
so who is preachin' this week? where is everybody at (besides joe)?
Yo yo, I'm here. Let's talk about this stuff tonight. Joe, sounds like you'll be there. See you there.
i'll touch on each point:
1. i too have enjoyed the meetings but agree that monday is going to be the best day.
2. i am the worst at updating the blog... i am working on a liturgy that we could possibly say together every service - one that defines who we are and why we get together.
3. powerpoint is definitely doable but then you're dealing with a couple things: having to put it together each week, and possibly some people not being able to read/see the screen...
4. yes, i agree.
5. i think we do a pretty good job with the meeting of people, but the getting of emails is not so hot...
anyway, i'm sorry on several levels: not being there tonight and not updating the blog as much as i can. i'm working on it. what if we emailed questions out to our email list every week (say monday) and asked them to answer them on the blog?
Email w/blog response is a good idea. Philip/Amanda have Becky's email. Mine's the same ending, but starts with jwnorm_ky
Sorry I missed the meeting tonight. I called and someone at coffee house said they didn't think anyone was there. We FINALLY finished a big project here and I'm just finishing the cleanup - 11pm. Gotta drive to KY @ 4:30am. Pray for me.
I'll be glad to fill in on the preaching (when I'm not sick) anytime you're desparate. I won't use last week's sermon though. It's unused history.
Looking forward to being there Sunday.
Joe
