This blog is not just a work in process-it is a process. This site was set up to help and focus our converation about doing worship and church together at Lockerbie Central United Methodst. Every Monday at 6:30 we gather as a community to discuss what worship might look like the next Sunday and beyond. Please join us on Monday nights if you would like to participate.

I thought it was FANTASTIC! Well performed, well thought-out. I do think we need to remember it was their 31st performance, so it's not as if we could do similar things in a single service. however, i felt they did an excellent job of explaining a journeying christianity without coming across as angry or bitter about "bullet point" faith as they called it. how can we best explain that this is what emerging christianity is, and that it's right with wesley in terms of how we live out our faith?
I too thought this was an awesome night. it was fun, funny, participatory, and did a great job of transporting you back to 1908.
there was a very high production value as well that might be hard for us to replicate right now though.
1. loved the tempo. very upbeat. hard hitting when it needed to be. humorous when it needed to be.
2. the use of costume/props was also very good.
3. liked their stage setup/powerpoint stuff.
4. music was great--gotta love those catchy sing alongs.
from reading the author's books, I wonder about going through one of those books with the peeps who gather on tuesday. it seems there is a lot of direct talk about jesus in the emergent stuff that we don't seem to hit. while some of us use the emergent tag more than others, perhaps going through one of those books would not only help our worship reflect who we are in action, but who we are in Jesus, how we are making a life in the way of jesus...
i would reccomend starting with doug paggitt's church re-imagined or preaching re-imagined.
the books are a few years old but very relavant to what we are talking about
Sorry I couldn't be there, but I know it was great! Going through one of the books together is a good thing. It gives us a common point from which to reflect.
Age isn't always a bad thing. Our "main text" is a few years old too.
